I found with my son that putting him over my shoulder and patting his back worked. He had colic so we had to make sure we burped as best we could and this semed to be tne method that worked. Good luck

Try tilting him all the way forward then all the way back a few times, pat a little harder maybe. Try holding him against your chest and bouncing him gently while patting his back. Lie him on his belly, maybe he will bring it up himself. Hope this helps at all.

the trick is to support him with hand at the front and a hand at the back and get him to sit bolt upright, keeping his back straight gently move him forward/backward/left right in small movements. no need to pat his back. not always need a burp, but apart from screaming the other way you can tell if baby has wind is their upper lip (moustache area) is darker so it looks like a pre-teen moustache. if your baby has pain full wind he will draw his little legs up to his tummy. happy burping!

There is a rather simple way of burping a baby which i can describe and seems to work every time, however if you are wary of trying it yourself please ask the midwife for help. Put the baby into a sitting position on your lap then put your left hand straight behind the babies back, using your forearm to straighten the babies spine and your hand to hold the babies head. Then use your right arm to support the babies front, and place your hand gently under the babies chin and hold his head up slightly. By doing this you are naturally straightening his oesophagus (food pipe) which will naturally encourage him to bring up wind. However like i said if you are nervous of doing this by yourself, then ask your midwife/health visitor for advice and help.

If lifting his left arm up and down for a couple of minutes doesn't work, then he is fine.

yep it's normal to not burp every time. :-) my little bub waits for an hour before she burps. you'll notice that he wants to burp when he gets really restless or listless even when asleep. it roughly looks like he's hungry again, but you know he's not because he just ate. (babies really cannot distinguish between hunger pangs and burp pangs yet so the motions are the same). once he starts agitating: moving his head side to side, whimpering, giving little cries... bring him upright and out the burp comes.
