Hi I am worried because after I feed my 2 week baby (formula) I try winding him but cant seem to get him to burp. I tilt him forward and gently rub and pat his back. Sometimes he will burp but most the time he doesnt. I dont want him to get a bad tummy. Is it normal for him not to burp everytime? Many Thanks

Ture he may not burp everytime but try different burping positions and I read once you should burp a baby for at least 10 mins.

Both of my sons were hopeless, but one thing that would work sometimes was lying them on their stomach across my lap and rubbing their back. Whatever wind didn't come up came out the opther end with the next feed!

1) Every baby is different. If there's no sign that he's uncomfortable (and believe me, he'd be telling you if he was!) then don't worry about not burping. 2) If this is your first baby, you may be being too gentle. My daughter was very windy, so we did need to burp her - but I wasn't very good at it. I gradually learned to be less nervous, and press a little harder, and it worked. Don't make yourself (or, of course, your baby) uncomfortable - but look at how robust midwives and experienced parents are with new-borns. 3) I also found it helped to start really low down, around the pelvis, and work up form there. Finally, you have to be comfortable in your parenting - so absolutely ask for help (it's very useful and reassuring), but then decide what you want to do, and go for it.

I am also worried for you, you do not want a baby with gas or collic. If you hold him on your shoulder make sure his head is not resting on your shoulder but above it, if you are holding him upright on your leg with your hand under his chin make sure he is one the edge of your leg and leaning forward, pat your own chest till you hear a good thump and then pat your babies back and listen for that same thump give him at least 5 mins and he should burb if not sooner. If not I don' know.

if you do have trouble getting him to bring the wind up, tthen in a couple of weeks you can try gripe water, although this cannot be used under one month. i used to put the baby on one shoulder and rub their back firmly but gently. but i had one baby easy to wind and one not so it does depend on the child. good luck

try holding him up against you with his head over your shoulder and pat or rub his back. Another thing that worked for me was just sitting my daughter on my knees and rubbing her back. Or placing him over your knees on his stomach and rubbing his back that way. If you have noticed rubbing or patting their back seems to work best.

With my little boy I find I have to burp him 3 times during a bottle otherwise he will not bring one up and if he does half the bottle comes with it. But the main this I found that helped was moving him around a little. I would have him on my lap like normal burping position. Support his head and gently push/sway him forward then back about 4 times. This of tern made the wind move a little then a little rub on the back and up it comes. Some babies are more stubborn when it comes to burps but they do need to come up. If he does not do it right away let the milk settle for a min then try again.
