Somehow I had heard once they sit up on their own they can burp on their own - true?

Depends on the baby. Mine never had the slightest interest in being burped and were just as happy if I didn't do it...so I didn't.

Yea, this is true. I discovered this once he could hold his head up. I'd nurse him laying down a lot and instead of getting up... I'd sit him up and he'd usually burp all by himself.

i've heard that also

when babies become more active, they can work the burp out of their system. around the time of sitting up and/or holding their own bottle.

my son didnt want to be burped after he started to hold the bottle on his own.

The air will travel up. Whether the baby is propped up or sits on their own it will come out.
