Default Why is it okay for my girlfriend to go from a cocktail dress to sweats but

when I go from jeans to her chemise? to be funny she starts kind of questioning my manhood?

Yes I did pick the pink silky and lacey one because I thought it would be the funniest and she howled with laughter but then later she seemed concerned.

Men never question their gals womanhood when they do something masculine why do they question are manhood when we do something slightly feminine?

Because your GF is buying into the socially-sanctioned parameters and roles of "masculinity" and "femininity."

How would she rate the following activities: masculine or feminine?
1) vacuuming
2) changing a flat tire
3) cooking a meal
4) mowing the lawn
5) washing dishes/clothes
6) installing a new light fixture
7) planting spring flowers
8) babysitting a relative's child
9) negotiating the price of a kitchen remodeling job
10) mending clothing

Point is ALL these activities are gender NON-specific. They have over the years been classified as either male or female activities but that's due to certain social circumstances and NOT because only men are qualified to change a tire and only women are qualified to cook a meal.

I'm a single male and do ALL of the above (well, I'm also a gay man but that's beside the point.)

Plus there's also some "embarrassment" factor in regards to seeing a man push a stroller with his child, or clean house or mend a pair of pants. The fact that these are "responsibilities" are typically relegated to the female of the species implies a certain "femininity" of the man who performs them when, in fact, that is a PERCEIVED quality of the tasks.

There are men who will swear up and down that a man's place is in the garage and a woman's place is in the kitchen. It's time to dispense with these arbitrary classifications. If you want to wear a pink, lacy chemise, I'd say you're pretty comfortable with your masculinity and your GF needs to stop worrying. You DID do it as just a joke. right? Not because you like wearing those little outfits...

To November above: I have one word for your guy: KILT.

Maybe tell her it was a joke, and not meant to be taken seriously. I would have laughed my tail off. You've done nothing wrong, don't let her give you grief about it.

My husband complains about the same thing - "Girls can wear whatever they want. It's not fair. They can wear dresses, or they can wear "mens" clothes, they can wear boots and overalls, they can wear anything. Guys can only wear guy clothes."
So I consider myself lucky that I have a wide variety of clothing to choose from!
Girls can also do "guy" things like play video games and sports, go fishing, hunting, watch football and drink beer without being ridiculed - guys cannot do "girl" things without ridiculed. It is unfair.

Because women are pointed out as the weaker sex so if they want to be manly they appear stronger; but if we want to be feminine they look on that as being weak.
it is all perspective and we have to adjust our behavior if we want to continue in a relationship.
